Softwood flooring

Wooden flooring can be found in the interior quite often because of its benefits. Wood is natural material and for this reason it creates not only aesthetic look but also provides warmth to the home, balances air humidity inside, and is less noisy that ceramic floor tiles. Moreover, wood ensures good isolation. Floorboards can be painted; however, the biggest part of them is left with their natural colour. Boards are strengthened with stain for timber and coated with protective layer of polish or floor priming.

Flooring gallery - spruce *- pine

How to choose the type of wood?

Floorboards are made out of softwood or hardwood. Softwood, whether it is pine, spruce or cedar is ecologic because of its nature. Compared to hardwood they grow very fast, satisfying our needs for this type of wood. This also affects low price of it. While hardwood floor can be so expensive that you will even avoid walking on it.

When choosing floor boards out of pine or spruce wood, it is recommended to use northern wood. Conifer that was growing during harsh conditions is more durable, the wood is denser and for these reasons the floor will be decent for longer time. You can also choose floor boards with fits on the sides to make the connections and dimensions of the boards easier. Way of mounting the floor especially depends on the thickness.

Thinner (15 – 25 mm) floor boards can be directly glued onto the concrete as parquet panels or you can use beams/beams and basis on them. Before paving the floor, you should thoroughly prepare that basis so it would be clean and smooth. If concrete floor are not flat, you should consider the possibility of using levelling mixture or special fibre that can unify the bumps (when the floor is not smooth, fibre up to 18mm thickness can be used). It is very important to protect wooden floor from humidity. Humidity getting through the concrete can be reduced by laying polythene sheet. Plywood panel is attached with screw onto the sheet of concrete and only then the floor boards can be mounted. The first plank is laid with the dowel side to the wall („tongue“) (“groove” directed to the centre of the room), leaving the space of about 10 mm from the wall for the expansion of the wood. If you use glue, spread it only onto small zone so that it would not dry out. When the boards are laid, they have to be tightly stretched with belts in order to stay in their place and no gaps would appear. Thicker floor boards are mounted onto beams/beams.

When ordering the wood you should make sure that the particular amount is sufficient. It is possible that the additional boards will be from different batches and might have different appearance. It is advisable to order more than you need by several square meters, when paying attention to the possible waste. It is also very important to allow wooden floor to acclimatize with the humidity level of the room. You should dedicate at least 10 days for acclimatization. If you want to preserve wooden floor so that they would be steady, it is recommended to maintain relative air humidity of 45 - 50 % in the house for the entire year.

Floor boards are dried in industrial way that is why the level of moisture reaches only 12%. Boards are wrapped in thermal insulation coating, which protects them from humidity and environmental impact while storing and transporting.
